How a 16 team round robin schedule works

Each of the 16 teams plays the other 15 once: 16 × 15 ÷ 2 = 120 games. They fit into 15 rounds of 8 games, with every team playing once per round.

The schedule uses the circle method: seed 1 stays in place and the other teams rotate one position each round. That pairs every team with every other team exactly once and never asks a team to play twice in a round.

With 8 courts or fields, every game in a round can be played at once, so the whole event takes 15 time slots, about 7.5 hours with 30-minute games. With one court it is 120 games back to back, about 60 hours.
