How a 13 team round robin schedule works

Each of the 13 teams plays the other 12 once: 13 × 12 ÷ 2 = 78 games. With an odd number of teams one team sits out each round, so there are 13 rounds of 6 games and every team has exactly one bye.

The schedule uses the circle method: seed 1 stays in place and the other teams rotate one position each round, with an empty "bye" position making the count even. That pairs every team with every other team exactly once and never asks a team to play twice in a round.

With 6 courts or fields, every game in a round can be played at once, so the whole event takes 13 time slots, about 6.5 hours with 30-minute games. With one court it is 78 games back to back, about 39 hours.
