Basketball award ideas
Each award has a line for the certificate. “Use this award” puts it in the maker, where you can keep the line or rewrite it.
Sharpshooter Award
For the best shooter: most made threes, or the best shooting percentage.
On the certificate: “for the best shooting on the team”
Rebounding Award
For the player who grabbed the most rebounds, or who boxed out hardest every possession.
On the certificate: “for owning the boards all season”
Playmaker Award
For the assist leader, or the player who always finds the open teammate.
On the certificate: “for setting up teammates with the extra pass”
Lockdown Defender
For the best on-ball defender, usually the player sent to guard the other team’s top scorer.
On the certificate: “for shutting down the other team’s best scorer”
Floor General Award
For the point guard or ball handler who called the plays and kept the team organised.
On the certificate: “for running the offense with a cool head”
Sixth Player Award
For the best player off the bench: the one who changed games without starting them.
On the certificate: “for making an impact every time you came off the bench”
Free Throw Award
For the best percentage at the line, or the most free throws made in practice.
On the certificate: “for the best free-throw shooting on the team”
Floor Burn Award
A hustle award for basketball: for the player who hit the floor most chasing loose balls.
On the certificate: “for diving after every loose ball”
Awards that suit every sport, from Most Valuable Player to Perfect Attendance, are in the maker’s list too; see the award ideas for any sport.
Giving out basketball awards
A youth basketball roster is often 8 to 12 players, few enough to give every player an award of their own. Use the basketball awards for what does not show in the points column, such as defense, rebounding and the extra pass, and the awards for any sport (Most Improved, Sportsmanship, Coach’s Award) for effort and attitude.
Read the line under each name out loud as you hand the certificate over, and make it about the whole season rather than one game.

Questions
What awards can you give in basketball?
The basketball awards on this page: Sharpshooter Award, Rebounding Award, Playmaker Award, Lockdown Defender, Floor General Award, Sixth Player Award, Free Throw Award and Floor Burn Award. Add the awards that suit any sport, such as Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player, Sportsmanship Award and Coach’s Award, so every player gets one.
How do I give each basketball player a different award?
In the names box, put the award after the name, separated by a comma: “Jordan Lee, Sharpshooter Award”. Each line becomes its own certificate, with that award and its line under the name. Download PDF puts every certificate in one file.
Can I print basketball certificates in our team colours?
Yes. Pick the team colour, and the border, the basketball emblem, the award title and the ribbon change to it. With a very pale colour the text stays dark so it is still readable.
